Takehiko Nohmi,Ph.D.
The former president of the Japanese Environmental Mutagen Society (JEMS)
Chemical exposure to humans, and its biological consequences, are major concerns in modern societies all over the world.
JEMS is the primary society that promotes cutting-edge science to evaluate the potential genotoxicity of chemicals to
humans. JEMS encourages research in various areas, including genomic and proteomic approaches to investigate gene-
environment interactions.
Establishment of a scientific basis for risk evaluation of chemicals to the human genome is an
important but challenging task in the 21st century. We are proud to be a part of this effort, and we look forward to
working with you to accomplish this important task for human health.
